A sneak peak at my new game...

Posted by mongoid - May 14th, 2011

As some of you may already know, I'm the new Tech Director of Mobile Development for BlindSquirrelGames, a small startup game developer in Orange County, CA. I thought you might like a taste of what I'm working on. This is the level editor for our current game, Beard & Glory, scheduled for release on iOS, Android, and PC later this year. I can't tell you much about what the game-play is like (expect a video trailer soon), but know that there will be Vikings, booze and destructive violence.

So whats the status on that other game?

Conjurer and Rock Candy are still in production, though they're second in line to my full time projects At BSG. Conjurer is still getting a huge overhaul, and RockCandy is getting work done on the main engine and art design.

So Conjurer will be in development for another 5 years? ;)

That would suck.

editor = win

How do you use Adobe air as a level editor?

The level editor lets the user select a SWF file full of assets like trees and mountains. Then using a few data structures I wrote, it creates a new instance of those trees and mountains and adds them to the stage of the level editor. When everything is positioned correctly and you click the save button, it scans through all of the assets on stage in the level editor and records their position, rotation, scale, etc info to an XML document. Later, the game engine can use that XML data to find and assemble the assets, and TADAAA.... it opens in the game.

Hope that made sense.

Omgosh. You play Hat Fortress 2?
HOW MANY HATS U GOT LOL.

Took me a bit to figure out what you meant. :-P

I don't play for hats, son.

Looks pretty awesome, how much will it cost when it's released? I've been looking forward to Conjurer for like 4 years now!

$0.99.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Conjurer, too. ;-) Conjurer has been a project on the back-burner for a long time. I just don't feel like I'm at a point where I'm good enough to build a worthwhile experience in code. It's no longer a browser-based game. It's a full fledged PC app, and I'm having a hard time cooking up something that doesn't get boring after 15 minutes. My design needs a rework just as much as my shitty platforming engine does.
