Dude....that is an awesome picture you have. Totally unrelated, but whatever.

Oh, haha, yeah. TF2 for the win!

i think when he does the swipe up, that frame where the staff is at a 90 degree angle slows up the power of that uppercut swipe. I'd try it without it.. like just go from the windup to the end frame. right now the shape that the swipe makes looks like this - /\ rather than a graceful crescent. meh i dunno maybe im splitting hairs

Good catch! I actually did that, and the motion looked too choppy and unnatural. Throwing a frame in the middle made it look a bit more fluid.

Don't worry about splitting hairs! I love these critiques!

Good work. I'm impressed since your description says you got skills in code. Or the animation wasn't made by you? Anyway, the art is very captivating. Now, for gameplay part... I believe you're gonna have a little problem: the characters attacks are way too short-ranged -- and that doesnt fit well unless you want the player to rely exclusively on the spells, which I believe is not true, since you made five attacking animations for a combo system. It's just a thought, I don't wish you to start it over form scratch...

Now taking a better look, I believe you could solve it by adding a "slash effect" larger than the weapon itself, maybe even not just a white one as you added-- maybe even related to the spells itself. LOL I'm starting to get a little carried away.

Anyway, good animation, If the rest of the project has the same quality, it will be great. Please forgive me if I've been rude by any means.

Good Luck.

Rude? You're damn right. I'm absolutely offended!

Haha! This is good. I plan on having the main character lurch forward when he does the overhead swing. That move also has the longest range. However, I feel the user should also incorporate their spells into the combo attacks which utilize projectiles like fireballs, frost blasts and thunderbolts.

Stay tuned, the animations for those will be ready for review soon.

I'll be totally tuned for your work, no doubt about it.

--Now WHAT? incorporating skills to the combo? man you won't believe I'm working at the same mechanic... I'm already anxious for this work to be out.

Furthermore, I read your thoughts about having some help at art... I would like to help if you are in need. I do not have your skill, though.

Also, a tip: you said you "feel like the user should..." -- I think the same about my project, yet I found it interesting to insert a little tutorial at the beginning. If you have a good gameplay mechanic, you can have a fun tutorial as well.

Yeah, a tutorial level sounds almost mandatory. Maybe even a dojo the user can go to between levels to practice their new spells. :-) Hmmmm.... sounds awesome.

That's really awesome!

My only gripe is that the power of the kick seems rather useless compared to the staff hits. Maybe attach a bazooka to his boot which goes off as he kicks :P

Just played the motion-demo (last news post). Wow. You got the art and animation SO right. But for the love of god! Don't make this a simple hack'n'slash! I know it's all up to you, but it would just be a shame to waste your talent on something we already got a million (or something) of.

If you need/wants some ideas, then I'm all yours on command ;-)

Glad you like it, dude.

I dunno, I kinda like the kick. It adds a little more variety to the common close-range melee attacks. Maybe to set it apart from the others I could have it push the enemy further back.

It's true, this project will be another hack-and-slash platformer, but it's my hope that this will be the best hack-and-slash platformer on NG, evar! If anything, perhaps it will raise the bar a wee bit.

Oh well... I trust that you'll include something that sets this Hack&Slack game apart from the others. Like a second mechanic, good writing or maybe even a story? :O

Some random automatic taunts (insults) would be good ^^

i like it! the animation is really good. cant wait for it. is a game?

Yep, check out the rest of the blog, it should explain more about it.

:-)

nice dude

Cool animation smooth and very detailed (I agree on the swipe thing it's cool), But I think (because his a mage) it needs a spell atack on the 5th hit, like thunder shot, stomping the staff creating fire all over him. These stuffs makes it more convincing that he's a kickass mage. Overall it's cool and good quality of animation keep it up

Do yo like to play team fortress 2 I like the soilder you like the sniper awesome

Yeah, sniper, demo and engineers are my favs.
