[Conjurer] Level 2 redesign and more

Posted by mongoid - September 2nd, 2009

Sorry for the lack of updates. Here's a little video to show what I've been up to for the past month. Make sure you watch it fullscreen in high quality! A lot has been going on. You can read more about it on my blog.

Looks like shit, dont bother making it

Noted. Nice troll.

that looks pretty good the movement and the stage looks great great

thanks thanks

Looks fantastic! Looking forward to it!

:-)

It's fun to watch the evolution! Let me know if you need any "testing" done on that level, I'd like to try running around. :)

Cool beans! I'll start handing out beta builds for testing once the level boss is complete. :-)

Maybe you can make a quick single frame, 'pull-up' sprite. Like right when you reach the top of the ladder, a single frame transition out of it. It seems like a worthwhile quick hit. It always bugged me in games that have ladders how sometimes the climbing sprite extended well beyond the end of the ladder. :P

Hey, it worked for MegaMan 1, right?

Haha, but seriously, that's been on the to-do list for a while. ;-P

It's Duke Nukem Forever: Flash Edition!

L-O-fucking-L.

Looks lush, just below the the quality of a the behemoth game, don't screw it up by making the the combat as entertaining as picking at toenails.

Just below? Baww.... :-(

My good buddy Ryan from GetWellGamers.com is helping with the gameplay design. We reworked a lot of the logic of my previous designs for all the enemies, so hopefully it will be more fun than when I originally started this project.

Dude, you've worked on this game for so long, and I'm glad it's coming along so nicely. Hopefully all the hard work will the worth it in the end. In my opinion, you should really start focusing outside of the art for the game but more so the gameplay. I've seen some of your other vids on how you fight enemies and the like, and I feel sad to say it's not worthy of the graphics of this game.

I really wish you good luck in finishing this badboy.

Yeah, you saw some really early stuff in those videos. I think I only had bats, wee little grunts, and spiders. The archer is getting a bit of an overhaul, and once the hero's magic attacks are up to snuff, the game should go beyond simple button mashing melee attacks.

Unfortunately, there is SOO much work to do with art. I really see the benefits of working on a team. Being Artist/Programmer/Designer is great for farting out little games in 2 weeks like most of the flash games you see out there, but for a game of this magnitude it can be a bit daunting.

I disagree a bit with coolio, I think the gameplay will definitely be worthy of the art. It may not be super fresh and ground-breaking, but solid game mechanics with a few neat things thrown in there can definitely out-shine a novel game mechanic pulled off poorly. I'm looking forward to the experience of fighting huge bosses, which I think will be a shining part of this game. Really we haven't even seen the level-up/magic scheme, nor weapon upgrades, bosses, etc. So it's tough to say the gameplay isn't living up to the art right now.

Small suggestions I'm sure you're working on: transition anim for going into and coming out of doors, destroyable stuff (like breaking down the huge door before the boss)

You're readying my game design doc, aren't you. ;-P Yeah, destructible obstacles are in the works, like giant chunks of ice that can only be melted, and jets of magma that have to be cooled.

And yes, the boss fights are going to be a big part of the game. Sooo... much... animating... left... ... I really painted myself into a corner by using the line tool to draw the characters. It takes forever to do anything, but it looks nice and crisp and keeps the filesize down.

Looks amazing!!!! I love the rocks and the pallisades and every fucking thing!!!! Well except for the climbing animation, it looks too slow or something. Man your're really spoiling us with thses vids because your sort of ruining the whole surprise factor that every game has. Man if you add a decent storyline to this than it will be great.
P.S. I think you should add more detail to the levels where the character is just jumping around and stuff. I like the cracks but I think there should be more variety but koodos on the art man! It's amazing!!!

P.S.S I think that you should keep the goblin statues, they looked cool. Maybe add some red around their mouths to make them look deadlier you know? :D

I hear ya. I'm hoping that the storyline and the gameplay will make up for the fact that you'll seen a lot of the level artwork.

Keep the goblin statues? Hmmm, I'll see what I can do.

:-)

illwil press owns and whatever the hell that vid is looks shitty.

lol... yes, your 13-year-old opinion matters soooo much.

Heck if you want pm me and I could help you with the storyline.

Already got a friend working on the story. :-)

needs more updates

nice also Registar is an asshole , why there are so little team fortress 2 movies/games on newgrounds its a shame
